Official library sources

exocad

Official source: exocad.com/integration/dentalcad-library-integration

Access: Serial-number gated on exocad.com: add the ZimVie packages to a download list, then submit an exocad dongle serial number and email to receive the link. Requires a permanent DentalCAD license with active upgrade contract or a Flex license. ZimVie also hosts exocad library zips directly on its STL Download page (zimvie.com), where files are direct downloads subject to its Terms and Conditions of Use.

exocad lists the manufacturer as 'ZimVie Inc. (formerly Zimmer Biomet, Biomet 3i)' — not 'Zimmer'. Separate packages exist: ZimVie GenTek FDA, ZimVie GenTek, ZimVie FDA, ZimVie, ZimVie Legacy, and Lab Analog packages (portal updates dated Jan-May 2026). TSV libraries live under these ZimVie packages; US labs must choose the FDA variants and legacy Zimmer components sit in the 'ZimVie Legacy' package.

3Shape

Official source: www.zimvie.com/en/dental/resources/stl-file-download.html

Access: ZimVie hosts the 3Shape files as direct zip downloads on its STL Download page (TSV Express and Flex abutments, TSV lab analogs, GenTek libraries, plus regional variants). Import into Dental System via Control Panel > Import materials (DME). Alternatively, 3Shape's in-software path is Control Panel > Tools > Download Center > Download libraries — but libraries appear greyed out until enabled on the lab's dongle via the Site Connection Administration tool or support@3shape.com.

ZimVie's GenTek library instructions (ZV2570 REV A, 10/24) direct 3Shape users to delete previous GenTek implant libraries in Control Panel before importing the newer 'sb-slim' libraries, then restart the software.

Third-party providers

Medentika (Straumann Group)TSV-compatible prosthetic line sold as 'R-Series (Zimmer Dental / Tapered Screw-Vent)' in the ZimVie-compatible section of the Straumann/Medentika US eShop.
DESS Dental19 Zimmer Screw-Vent-compatible product families including scan abutments, Ti-bases, analogs and digital analogs, multi-unit abutments, pre-milled blanks, and temporary/healing components; DESS distributes its own CAD/CAM libraries.
Elos Medtech (Elos Accurate)Scan bodies and analogs for printed models covering Zimmer Tapered Screw-Vent platforms; Elos Accurate exocad library downloads are routed through the exocad library download portal (territory selection on the Elos site).
NT-tradingDentsply Sirona's inPost compatibility chart documents nt-trading multi-unit abutments for Zimmer TSV 3.5 and 4.5; nt-trading's catalog covers Zimmer Dental / Tapered Screw-Vent-compatible components.
Glidewell (Inclusive)Inclusive titanium scan bodies for Zimmer Screw-Vent 3.5 mm and 4.5 mm platforms with internal titanium alloy screw.
Preat CorporationTSV-compatible scan bodies for 3.5, 4.5 and 5.7 mm platforms; asymmetrical design (only one way to align in CAD), used with the Preat Choice Library.

Scan bodies

  • OEM: ZimVie's GenTek line includes implant-level scan bodies (intraoral and desktop) for TSV in 3.5, 4.5 and 5.7 mmP platforms; the Zfx GenTek intraoral scan body for TSV/Trabecular Metal 3.5 mmD is sold in 4 mm and 7 mm heights.
  • Revision (documented): ZimVie introduced GenTek 'Slim' scan body libraries in late 2024 — files named 'GenTek-xx-sb-slim' are the new libraries, 'GenTek-xx-ios h4/7 and D' are the old ones. ZimVie's instructions (ZV2570 REV A 10/24) tell labs to delete the previous libraries before importing in 3Shape and Dental Wings; RealGUIDE requires v5.4+ for cloud install.
  • Elos Accurate offers TSV scan bodies in two generations: the original IO scan body and the newer ScanBody22 (Zimmer Screw-Vent 3.5 and 4.5), plus analogs for printed models; both generations are sold concurrently by distributors.
  • Third-party scan bodies are platform-specific (Glidewell: 'each scan body is specific to the restorative platform of the seated implant'); Glidewell's Inclusive TSV scan bodies are hand-tighten only, single intraoral use, max 60 minutes intraoral.

Documented pitfalls

Community-reported and support-documented issues — the kind that stall real cases.

  • Community-reported (Dental Lab Network, thread 31703): with Elos exocad libraries for Zimmer 3.5 Screw-Vent, only scan bodies marked 'IO' (the tapered ones) let the library output digital implant model (DIM) files for printed models — a lab that bought a non-IO scan body could not generate model files and was advised to swap scan bodies or build a custom library.
  • Two generations of ZimVie GenTek scan body libraries coexist ('ios h4/7 and D' vs newer 'sb-slim'); ZimVie's own download instructions require deleting the older libraries from 3Shape Control Panel / Dental Wings before importing the new ones, so skipping that step can leave mismatched library versions installed (ZV2570 REV A, 10/24).
  • In 3Shape's in-software Download Center, implant libraries appear greyed out until they are enabled on the lab's dongle (via the Site Connection Administration tool or support@3shape.com) — official libraries are not simply downloadable on demand (3Shape support article).
  • Community-reported (Dental Lab Network, thread 23771): several internal-hex systems (MIS Seven, Adin Touareg-S, Implant Direct Legacy, BioHorizons) are described by lab techs as cross-compatible with Zimmer 3.5/4.5 platforms, which makes implant system misidentification easy when the system is unlabeled; smaller-diameter platforms (3.0/3.3) are proprietary and not interchangeable.
